I have a door sensor on a sliding glass door going to our backyard. I would like to know if it is possible to have the sensor constantly announce that the door is open on this specific sensor until the door is closed? This is for safety purposes for ensuring the door is not left open and to know if the door is opened unexpectedly for some reason.
There is no built in option to have constant vocal announcements or chimes when a sensor is open.
A sensor can be programmed to cause an alarm regardless of the arming state of the panel, but I wouldn’t recommend that for the description you have given. Another option would be Alarm.com reminders for sensors left open.
You can create a notification in Alarm.com to send to any number of contacts via SMS, Push, or email when the sensor is left open for a specific time-frame.
You might be able to hack something together with Z-wave.
In automation, you can create a rule where a door sensor opening = turn on a Z-wave device and a door sensor closing = turn off a Z-wave device. So, you’d just need to find a setup where that Z-wave device makes noise. So, perhaps a Z-wave outlet with a siren or something plugged into it that always sounds when the power is on?
They also make Z-wave sirens specifically, but I’m not sure that they can be automated in the same way that Z-wave outlets/switches can be. Jason will have to weigh in on that one.
Z-wave sirens generally have no automation options. They just trigger during alarm activity on the panel.
However the Z-wave suggestion is a good idea which would let you use a sound making device of your choice, like a buzzer of some kind if desired. This would be set up in Alarm.com, not configured on the panel.
