Recently converted from Vivint to ADC / IQ5 - and have been very happy so far.
With Vivint, MyQ was recommended for garage door control.
Since I owned that already I integrated that with ADC / IQ5 and everything went well. I occasionally get an error that the MyQ is offline. If I click troubleshoot and then re-connect it immediately re-connects. I’m betting there’s little I / we can do to fix that - likely just some weirdness with the MyQ cloud.
I own a GD00Z-4 - which I know is an older generation of the GD00Z.
Thoughts to a) whether I should be able to integrate and use the GD00Z-4 with my system, and b) whether I’d likely have better reliability with the GD00Z versus MyQ?
if so - just to confirm it’s still working fine - can I include the GD00Z, and once I confirm it’s working remove / delete the MyQ integration?
There shouldn’t be any issues with reusing the GD00Z-4 with your system. They are compatible with Alarm.com. You can include it on the panel, test, and remove MyQ if it works properly.
As long as it has a good connection to the panel, you will likely have better reliability than using MyQ. I had some issues with MyQ when using the Smart Garage Hub. We replaced it with a Linear controller, and it has been a lot more reliable than the previous MyQ equipment.
I got the unit to pair with the panel without any issue. then manually opened / closed the door to sync the tilt sensor - and that worked great too.
when using the app / panel to “open” the door - the unit issues the warning beeps, but the garage didn’t move. I manually shorted the two terminals on my door opener (overhead door infinity 2000) - and that opened, and also closed the door. so it seems that my opener’s terminals are working and correct - and doesn’t seem to be looking for anything “smart” via the wiring.
I took GD00Z off the wall - opened it up, and put an Ohm meter on the screw terminals inside the unit - and after issuing open or close commands via ADC - I don’t see a change on the Ohm meter.
I’m guessing that the unit (which I’ve owned for like 10 years) has failed? I’ve read people having issues with LEDs (which seems to “break” the unit) and relays failing. just figured I’d check here to see if there might be anything that I should try before I replace it.
