Recently added a Skybell Slimline and really like the integration with the ADC app and event-triggered rules. It’s got me thinking about adding additional cameras. Can the ADC compatible cameras be used to trigger events? I have my Skybell setup to turn on my porch lights and would like to do something similar in the back of my house.
Standard Alarm.com video cameras do not contain PIR detectors, instead they use Video Motion Detection (VMD) to trigger motion recordings.
VMD cannot be used to trigger automation rules currently due to difficulty in filtering all unwanted triggers.
To do something similar, an outdoor PIR would be needed to trigger the lights. Depending on your panel type there may be wireless options.
Thanks. I’ve look at the 5800PIR-OD before it’s quite expensive.
I’m thinking that I could just get another Skybell doorbell camera and mount it to the area. I would need to rig up a power supply but that shouldn’t be that hard.
Any thoughts on the drawbacks of just using a Skybell doorbell camera for this purpose? They are surprisingly small and the performance has been great.

If the intention is to just capture the same type of activity as with the front camera, no, there would be no drawbacks. That would work for you.
