Hi. Home is prewired with cat6 cables. I got a ADC camera (VC727P) from alarm system store. I plugged in one end of the cat6 cable into the router and the other end into the camera. The camera won’t turn on. I tried using a dc volt supply and it turns on. I want to use it only with PoE. What am I doing wrong. Will the cat6 cable need to go through a POE switch or injector and then into the router ? Directly connecting it to router is the issue?

If the port you’re plugging it into on the router isn’t a PoE port then yes, you need a PoE switch or injector. Normal (non-PoE) routers don’t provide power over ethernet.
