For a Qolsys IQ 4 Panel, I’m trying to figure out what the best Motion Detectors are. I’m not positive, but I think we currently have some Honeywell 5800PIR Motion Detectors.
There are also Qolsys S-line IQ Encrypted Wireless Motion Sensors 319.5 MHz (Model Number: QS1231-840), and those are much cheaper, but I was reading that S-line is not recommended.
As I mentioned, I think we already have some Honeywell Motion Detectors, but for the additional ones I want to go with whatever is best, so would that be Honeywell, Power G, or something else?
Where did you read that? The difference in these things is how they communicate with the control panel. I’d say Honeywell 5800 series and S-Line are pretty similar while PowerG is better than both because it’s longer range and more resistant to jamming.
Which model panel do you have? You would need to pick sensors that match your panel. It either works with Honeywell 5800 (345 MHz) or S-Line (319.5 MHz) but probably not both.
I saw some people saying the S-line isn’t what they’d recommend, however, I don’t think my IQ 4 Panel has the 319.5 MHz Daughter Card anyway. It does have the SRF-345 Daughter Card.
I also found the documentation, and it looks like we did already install some Honeywell 5800PIR-RES Motion Detectors.
I looked it up, and it seems like the Transmission Range for the Honeywell 5800PIR-RES is approximately 100 feet. Do you know if 100 feet is the correct Transmission Range?
And also, the Wireless Signal for the connection to the Qolsys IQ 4 Panel can go through walls and floors, right?
The wireless signal will go through walls but walls will attenuate it. So too many walls or too thick walls will cause a problem. Walls with metal in them like concrete cause the biggest problem.

Honeywell 5800 Series sensors are usually about 200 feet, but range is listed as an open air value, attenuation will shorten it differently depending on your location. In a typical house though the immediate environment is likely to have a bigger impact than walls and floors. For example, mounting sensors on a metal surface, or near ducts in the basement, etc.
For comparison PowerG sensors have roughly 10 times the open air range of those 5800 Series sensors on the IQ Panel 4.
