August Smart Lock Pro

It looks like August Smart Locks are rolling out a new lock that incorporates Z-Wave technology. In their PR blurb, they mention how their Z-Wave lock is capable of communicating with security system panels.

I quite like the look and minimal appearance of August Smart lock and was curious if you had heard any rumblings of whether this would be compatible with 2Gig or alarm.com?

I have not heard anything about support for the August lock yet. I’m not aware if there are plans at this time, though I would imagine it’s just a matter of time.

Anything more? I am also interested.

There are no updates at this time. The lock would need to be supported by the Alarm panels individually for compatibility. We will update with any future information.

I just saw this press release indicating that August is now partnering with alarm.com and the lock should be fully integrated with many security panels such as those supplied by Nortek.

Based on this information, I should be able to connect the August Smart Lock Pro to my GC3 system through Z-wave and control it with the alarm.com app, correct?

Do you happen to have any information on whether this is fully functional right now? Additionally, if it is functional I am assuming that I would only need to purchase the August Lock Pro (with Z-Wave) and would not need to purchase the Connect (which provides Wifi Control to the lock). I am assuming that I could wirelessly control the lock through the alarm.com app, which would work through the GC3 and sent the wireless commands through Z-Wave. Similarly, Alexa integration with the lock would work in a similar manner (through alarm.com and they GC3) without the need for the Connect.

From what we have been told, the August Smart Pro V3 should function on the GC3 now through Alarm.com, yes.

It should be compatible with any of the recent firmware versions we are told.

For the IQ Panel 2 it requires 2.0.4 or later firmware, and for the GC2 it requires 1.17 or later.

On systems using Alarm.com manufacturer modules (GE panels, SEMS) it requires module version 185 or higher.

Is there confirmation that the Smart Lock Pro doesn’t need the Connect module to work through Alarm.com?

Thanks -

No, the connect hub is not required, the Smart Lock Pro would communicate with the panel via Z-wave.

Any reason why it will only work with GC3 but not GC2? thanks

It is compatible with the GC2. From a post above:

"It should be compatible with any of the recent firmware versions we are told.

For the IQ Panel 2 it requires 2.0.4 or later firmware, and for the GC2 it requires 1.17 or later.

On systems using Alarm.com manufacturer modules (GE panels, SEMS) it requires module version 185 or higher."

You’ll just need to make sure your GC2 is on 1.17 or later firmware to use the August lock

Will this work with IQ Planel Classic? Someone at alarm.com told me it should work with all of their existing panels. Thanks.

The August Smart Lock Pro is listed in ADC as not compatible with the Gen 1 Qolsys IQ Panel. Attached is a screen grab from their official list.

While this is disappointing it is helpful. I currently have a Qolsys gen 1 panel, a secondary panel, and accessories. I’m thinking of upgrading to Qolsys 2 panel. Is it safe to say that all of my accessories that work with gen1 will also work with gen2? Also, do you know if my Qolsys secondary panel will work with Qolsys2 primary panel? Thanks for your help.

For the most part yes, any sensors/Z-wave devices compatible with the IQ Panel should be compatible with the IQ Panel 2. There are exceptions for Image Sensors, as the IQ Panel 2 Plus with the Power G card is not compatible with Image Sensors.

The Secondary Touchscreen would not be compatible. The IQ Panel 2 Remote Touchscreen would be required.

Good news. I was able to learn the August smart lock into my Quolsys IQ original panel. I did get a warning that August lock supports security S02 and this panel is only S01, but it worked!

That is good news. I would caution that you may see issues over sustained use.

It may be though that the lock’s S2 additional encryption features will be ignored when using an incompatible controller, but I am not 100% on that.
