As of February 2022, AT&T Digital Life will no longer be in operation. I received an e-mail offering a conversion to Brinks Home Security. According to Brinks, the installation includes a new Qolsys IQ2+ panel that is backwards compatible with the legacy Digital Life security sensors (Door/Window, Motion, Smoke, CO, etc). They said they would not be replacing those devices as a part of the conversion offer.
Rather than choosing to adopt the Brinks offer, I purchased my own Qolsys IQ2+ panel DSC 433 version. I’ve powered off the AT&T Digital Life Controller unit completely (removed battery and power supply). Unfortunately, the IQ2+ panel is not recognizing my legacy Door/Window, Motion, or CO sensors. I have pressed the tamper switches on all these devices with no luck. The SRF433 daughter card passed the test in the IQ2+ settings.
Does anyone have information on what the cause could be? Should these sensors be removed from the AT&T Digital Life Controller first? Do I potentially have the wrong panel, or are these sensors locked to a particular IQ2+ version that only Brinks has?
I don’t recall any successful use of Digital Life sensors with an Alarm.com compatible panel. I’m a little confused by that but they may have updated their equipment or made other changes.
Historically, I believe Digital Life sensors used Zigbee RF, not 433mhz. But, admittedly I don’t have a lot of experience with them.
I just looked at some documentation and it seems to imply that AT&T has a 433 Mhz repeater that is used for sensor signal boosting, so they do use 433.
It would be easier to confirm compatibility with sensor model numbers. What are the model numbers of those sensors you have? Can you post a photo of the sensor labels?
Thanks for your prompt response. I am including photos of the security sensors here. The Contact Door/Window sensors have stickers on the back, and unfortunately they are all mounted to the doors so I don’t have a photo to share of the back. I was able to show the inside of the contact sensor, though I don’t think it will be helpful to you. Is there anyway to confirm with Qolsys on compatibility?
The FCC ID suggests that the carbon and the motion are 433MHz (theres no useful information on that DW). So they may be able to be learned in to the IQ Panel 2 with 433 MHz radio.
When navigating to Auto-Learn mode in panel programming, try applying power to the motion… Does the sensor learn in?
I removed the motion battery while in auto learn mode and replaced it. I did this about 1/2 foot away from the panel with no luck. I repeated this process with the door contact sensors (2) and CO detector. I tried this with (2) motions total. I did see a manual online that references compatible AT&T digital life sensors. The bottom or portion of the manual says,
“ NOTE: UL indicates that the device is certified to UL standards. These devices are to be used only for UL residential fire and burg applications and are not suitable to UL Commercial Burg applications. IQ Panel 2 shall use security RF modem radio card model SRF-433AT&T (Digital Life protocol).”
Perhaps there is a unique daughter card that reads these legacy AT&T Digital Life sensors. At this point, I’m thinking this is the case, and since I don’t have this particular daughter card, I probably can’t use those sensors. Does surety home have connections with Qolsys to confirm this is the case?
That appears to be the case here. It is likely that a separate daughter card is needed and that the ATT433 digital life sensors are different enough that they wont work with the standard 433 version of the IQ Panel 2+.
I have reached out to Qolsys for confirmation and any additional information. It is likely that the version of the panel that uses digital life is proprietary and not available for purchase outside of specific vendors (ATT, etc).
Yea, looks like they are proprietary sensors and cannot be used with the QS9201-4208-840. They can only be used with a proprietary panel obtained from a specific dealer.
