Is there a way to eliminate having to always say the long phrase of “alexa ask alarm.com to…”? Would be nice to only have to say, for example, “alexa turn on kitchen lights” and have to add the long phrase of '…ask alarm.com… Thanks!
Yes! You can also activate the Alarm.com Smart Home Skill (a different skill than the standard Alarm.com Skill for Alexa) which supports thermostat and lighting commands without having to “Ask Alarm.com to”
Go to your Amazon skills list.
Search for Alarm.com.
Tap Alarm.com Smart Home.
Tap Enable.
Enter your Alarm.com account credentials.
Tap Allow.
Tap Done to leave the confirmation screen.
Now that you have turned on the skill, you need to discover your thermostats and lights:
When you tap the x on the confirmation screen, a pop-up window will appear. Tap Discover Devices.
Or you can Ask Alexa. Say “Alexa, discover my devices”.
Note: If a light or thermostat does not appear, please ensure the device is plugged in and has an “OK” status on the Alarm.com website.
After the discovery is complete, the devices will appear in the Your Devices list.
Again, this will provide this shortened command style for lights and thermostats.
Got it and im now able to eliminate “…ask alarm.com…”, but how i cant operate a grouping of devices by name hierarchy like in the other app. How do i configure in this app to turn all groupings for example, kitchen left lights, kitchen right lights, kitchen center lights all by saying ‘kitchen’ lights and everything with that name in name string is operated by that kitchen group and not have to address each kitchen grouping individually. In the previous app, it works fine controlling groups by name hierarchy strings. Thanks!
Thnks
Do you have a group that is called “kitchen” which has all of the various kitchen lights? If not, that would be the way to definitively do that.
Lights can be part of more than one group, so for example you can set a group for kitchen left lights, a group for kitchen right lights, and a group for all kitchen lights.
Jason thats what i said, i have string names that works fine controlling groups in the other apps saying “alexa ask alarm.com…” but it is not working the same for the smarthome app eliminating saying “…ask alarm com…”. When i ask by NOT saying “…ask alarm.com…” but ask “alexa turn on kitchen lights” it then says there many devices that share that same name (word in string), which one do you want" when should operate ALL those devices instead of asking which one. Thanks.
Does it act differently if you tell it to “Turn on All Kitchen Lights?”
