I am in the process of switching my cameras over to Alarm.com. Most of them are hard wired POE cameras, however I have one I use to check in on the dogs when I am away from home. I would like this camera to be off when I am at home, and only activated when I am away. My original plan was to use a POE camera, but I do not see any options to use the camera in the way I am intending in the automations section. Is this possible? Can this be achieved with a different camera, say one of the indoor wifi cams compatible with ADC? My plan B is to purchase an indoor wireless camera and have it attached to a Z-wave outlet that is powered on when the system is armed in away and powered off when system is disarmed. This seems a little convoluted but would be a workaround.
The camera I was originally going to use is the ADC-VC826.
There is not a way through Alarm.com to turn a camera on or off based on any criteria. Camera power cannot be controlled through Alarm.com.
Recording Rules can be set to not record when the panel is Disarmed or Armed Stay, or during the time when a selected Geo-Device is inside a Geo-Fence. You can also set the rule to record at all times, or during specific times.
When setting an SVR schedule, in the Time Frame section, you can select a time frame for the rule to be active.
Thanks for getting back to me promptly. I think I am going to go with my backup plan which is a ADC wifi camera plugged into a Z-Wave outlet that I can automate to switch on and off based on the alarm status. Is this a feature that you can suggest to ADC for future updates?
I am happy to pass that along but I do not believe commands can be sent that actually turn off the camera while it is still connected to power. The limitation likely lies with the hardware in this case.
