ADC2000 & Whole Whole Humidifer with multiple thermostats

Hello,

I have TWO ADC-2000 thermostats in a multi-zone system (Honeywell HZ311) … I have an Aprilaire 600M Whole Home Humidifier. Any tips on wiring the thermostats to control the whole home humidifier? As it stands now, the existing manual control from the Aprilaire has two-wires-- one appears to go to a common 24v power source and the other goes to the Honeywell HZ311 and attached to the “W” under equipment section.

I’m stumped!

Hi, happy to help!

Installation instructions for the Humidifier have been added below. Generally one of the thermostats would control the humidifier, and you would wire it based on the current control method:

1-wire control

This is a common configuration. Typically, these systems are already wired into the existing thermostat, likely connected to an H, DH, or X terminal. In these cases, wire this directly to the Z terminal on the Smart Thermostat (ADC-T2000) or the Z1 or Z2 terminals on the Smart Thermostat (ADC-T3000).

2-wire control

This is also a common configuration. This configuration is typical for new humidity control system installations or for systems wired directly to a humidistat. The humidifier or dehumidifier may be wired to a separate humidistat (digital or analog dial format), or to a dedicated set of terminals on the previous thermostat. These two wires often lack polarity, so typically either can be used to connect to the thermostat.

Important : With 2-wire systems, it is best to test continuity on the wires to determine if there is 24 V present before continuing with the installation.

Place one wire into the Z1 terminal and the other into the Z2 terminal. These can then be configured for humidification or dehumidification.

If a wire does carry 24 V, it can damage the thermostat if connected to the Z1 or Z2 terminal. In these cases, a 24 V relay should be added. The two existing wires connect to one end. Additional wires are connected to the other end, which should connect to the Z terminal and common terminal at the furnace control board, as described previously.

This can be done on locally as well:

  1. Press the menu button.
  2. Select SETTINGS .
  3. Select INSTALLER .
  4. Select CONTINUE .
  5. Select Z1 or Z2 .
  6. Select HUMID or DEHUMID .

The following are the two methods of connection, which depends on whether or not a 24 V is present.

  • If a 24 V wire is not present, one wire can be connected to the Z terminal on the Alarm.com Smart Thermostat, and the other wire can be connected to the common terminal at the furnace control board.
    • The furnace control board is usually located behind a panel at the bottom of the furnace and has labels for various terminals, such as R, C, Y, W, and G. This board is like a thermostat terminal bank.
    • Verify the system is powered off by flipping the breaker that controls the system.
  • If a wire does carry 24 V, it can damage the thermostat if connected to the Z terminal. In these cases, a 24 V relay should be added. The two existing wires connect to one end. Additional wires are connected to the other end, which should connect to the Z terminal and common terminal at the furnace control board, as described previously.
