The alarm went off but didn’t sound or anything. The panel gave a message that about smash & crash. What was the cause and why didn’t the alarm sound?
Happy to assist!
Regarding Crash and Smash, your alarm panel sends a signal to Alarm.com once a sensor (in this case Front Door) is activated during an armed state. If a follow up signal is not received (such as a disarm or alarm), a “crash and smash” alert is sent to Central Station. Note that this would not cause an audible alarm at the panel. Signal would be sent directly to Central Station and treated as a burglary event.
In this case, Alarm.com did not receive a disarm signal or an alarm signal after the entry delay on the front door that was activated. This is why a Smash and Crash notification was sent and Central Station was notified.
The signal sent to Alarm.com would depend on your cellular connection (as well as delays set up for sensors) Typically, the signal is sent within seconds, however it would appear that the overall signal strength is low. This can cause the issue you encountered.
To troubleshoot signal strength issues, here are some things you will want to look at:
- Where is the panel mounted? Is it mounted near metal? This can cause signalling interference
- Is the Panel mounted/located on a main or higher floor?
- Is the antenna installed properly in the cellular module? Is it hanging near internal power
wires if installed on the wall? - What about changes to the environment? If the panel is placed near metal or large appliances, this can
interfere with signaling.
