2gig GC3 firmware 3.1 deleted all settings and error 15

I just downloaded the 3.1 firmware posted at https://suretyhome.com/forums/topic/firmware-release-information-gc3/.

After running the firmware update everything seemed to go fine and it restarted a few times. After the final reboot, a message appeared saying there was an error 15 and it was unable to update the firmware. The system info after the reboot says the firmware is 3.1.0.

Also after the firmware update all settings were reset. Installer code and all sensors and zwave devices are completely missing.

This is a warning to all who are thinking of updating. Very aggravating since 2gig doesn’t even offer a way to back up settings, so I have to start from scratch.

Any help from Surety would be appreciated.

I tried to flash the firmware again and got an error 17, “unknown result”.

What version was your panel previously running? You will want to have 3.02, not 3.00 or 3.01 before updating.

What is the exact version number of the downloaded file? Just the file name would be what we need to verify.

I am also getting error 17. Note I am trying to upgrade from 3.1 5571 to 3.1 5572. 2gig briefly released then pulled a 3.1 version, and I updated to that before it was pulled. The file I am trying to use is
gc3-3.1.0.5572-update-any.2gig

You wouldn’t be able to flash the exact same version, but I would think an updated version of 3.1 should work. We’ll check with 2GIG on that and see if perhaps there is a work-around to what you are seeing.

Error 17 appears when trying to update from one version of 3.1 to another version of 3.1. This error is normal and expected in this case.

What you will want to check is the build version number. Navigate to system info and usage -> system info to confirm the build version number. Are you seeing 5572 (the newest version of 3.1) or something different?

I updated from 3.02. I updated using the file gc3-3.1.0.5572-update-any.2gig. I started reprogramming the panel after all my settings disappeared.

The system info after the Error 15 said 3.1.0 5572, so has the panel updated or did the Update fail as the message said? Should I factory reset the panel? Any idea what Error 15 might have been caused by?

Also what setting do you recommend for “Radio modem network failure time, in minutes (0-255)”

IN my case, I was updating from 5571 to 5572. System info screen still says 5571 after I run the update.

The system info after the Error 15 said 3.1.0 5572, so has the panel updated or did the Update fail as the message said?

If you show version 3.1.0 build 5572, that would indicate that firmware did indeed update successfully. The error is likely related to the fact that device programming was lost, but we have not run into that on a production firmware version, so something unique occurred in that case. We will see if 2GIG has any input on that error.

IN my case, I was updating from 5571 to 5572. System info screen still says 5571 after I run the update.

We will let 2GIG know that the update failed to update the build version. The GC3 will not accept re-flashing, only upgrades. I would assume based on that result that the panel simply checks the firmware version to see if the new update is viable and does not check the build. We will see if there are any special instructions or troubleshooting from 2GIG and update this thread.

Hi just wanted to check in to see if 2gig might have had any instructions on how to get from 5571 to 5572? I

They have not heard of this issue, but I am able to recreate on a panel locally. We are working with 2GIG to test and see if we can resolve the issue. We will update here with the results. We hope to have more info soon.

getting similar issue - trying to upgrade firmware from 3.1.0.5572 to 3.1.1.5862 and get Error 17 code. Fails to upload firmware and keep reverting back to 3.1.0.5572.

Note that 3.1.2 is available. I would suggest trying this version to see if there is any difference. Find the firmware link here.
