Do you have any tips on getting to VMD settings set up properly to actually record motion? Many different settings have been tried to adjust the sensitivity and target size with no results, thereby making the cameras useless unless actual feed is being watched. Thanks for your insight.

There are some general tips but in this case the direct issue is that there is no VMD Recording Schedule set up.
Go to Video - Recording Schedules - Add Schedule. Create a video motion detection schedule to use your VMD settings you’ve set in the Video Device Settings section.
In general, VMD capture windows should be long and narrow, used as trip-wires to cover areas where motion would occur. With a narrow window, the target size can be much more accurately set, and set higher to avoid false recordings.
