I moved into a house with what looks like a 2GIG panel and one of the takeover modules in the basement. You guys monitor these using cellular? Do I need a data plan with the carrier for the cell card I choose?
While the panel itself contacts alarm.com and the central monitoring station through cell signals you do not need a data plan to use the cellular module for said communications. All of those fees associated with the cell service are included in the service plan. Here you can determine which is the best plan for you.
You will need to ensure that the 2GIG panel has a 3G cellular module inside. The location of which can be found in this tutorial here.
Once you have located the cell module you will need to check that it is no longer being used by another monitoring company (each cellular module can only be used by one monitoring service at a time) You can plug that module’s serial number in here to confirm.
If the cell module is still locked, you will need to purchase a new module which can be found here for Verizon and here for AT&T.
You can use this coverage check tool to determine which is the best carrier for your area. Although, we have had the best experiences with the Verizon module.
An overall guide to setting up service with a 2GIG Go!Control Panel can be found here.
