IQ Panel 5 cannot connect to WiFi

I have been trying to setup a new system for about a month now. I am not at the location of the system full time so every time I hit a roadblock it could be several days or more before I can try again.

My first failed attempt I attributed to a bad wifi connection. The property I am setting this up at is under construction and I didn’t have internet installed there yet, so I tried using a connection I have from a nearby building. When the panel failed the dual path wifi test and seemed to have difficulty maintaining a wifi connection, I assumed I was just too far away from the AP and it couldn’t maintain a stable connection. I gave up until I could install internet at the property.

Now that I have internet at the property I tried again. The new wifi AP is literally 10 feet from the panel. I can connect to it from other devices anywhere on the property. I tried to run through the setup wizard and again the panel would not connect to wifi. Quitting out of the wizard and going directly to the wifi page it sees the connection, allows me to enter the password, says connecting, and then says ‘saved’ but is not connected.

Given that IoT devices can be quirky about wifi things, I thought maybe it was because the SSID had a space in the name. So, I changed the SSID to use underscores instead of spaces. Still no-go.

Then I remembered I was using a wifi 7 AP broadcasting on 2.5, 5, and 6 GHz. I know this can trip up IoT devices as well, so first I tried disabling the 6 GHz band. No dice. Then I tried disabling 5 Ghz band so now the SSID was only operating on 2.4 GHz. Still no dice.

I’ve tried deleting the wifi entries in the panel multiple times, rebooting the panel multiple times. I’m not sure what to do at this point. I’m starting to suspect a bad panel.

You likely tried this - but there was a setting on my IQ5 that I needed to select in order to have the panel join my (Meraki) Wifi network at the house.

I think it might have been PMF? or something like that.

and I don’t want to take credit if that was the issue - the great @surety team suggested that.

There are two very common issues that can cause Wifi connection failure on the IQ Panel 5. One of these is resolved in the latest firmware update, but that would not be applied to the panel in question yet.

  1. PMF Settings mismatch between the router and the panel. Try toggling the PMF setting on the IQ Panel, this is the #1 cause of failure with modern access points. This is under Wifi > Advanced Wifi Settings. Tap the PMF menu item and you will be prompted with a PMF checkbox.
  2. The panel does not support WPA3 security on firmware versions under 5.1.0. Make sure your wifi network allows WPA2. After connecting and updating firmware to 5.1.0, the panel will support WPA3.

Thanks, I will try these when I am back at the property next weekend.
