IQ Panel 2 Boots to Home, Reboots to Logo, then Shuts Off

I have an IQ Panel 2 that stopped working this morning. When I checked it was powered off. I used the side button to power the unit back on. It boots to the home screen and appears to function for a few minutes but then will suddenly reboot to the Qolsys animated logo for a few minutes and then shut off. I disconnected the battery and checked the power adapter voltage which measured 7.46V. The adapter was not hot and seems normal. Powering the IQ Panel 2 with the battery disconnected did not help and the unit still does the same boot to home for a few min, reboot to logo, and then shut off sequence. The panel is well protected and almost never even touched. Could this be a failed software update or corrupted firmware? Was there a recent update pushed out? Can I manually install the latest firmware as a possible fix?

Try a full power cycle disconnecting power and battery. Leave the whole thing off for 10+ minutes before powering back up. Check the battery to ensure it is not bloated or pillowed. If it is, it should be replaced (they recommend replaced about every 5 years or so on the battery).

Once power is connected, and the panel rebooted. Does the panel stay stable or does it reboot again?

Your panel is reporting firmware 2.7.2 which was released back in '22. The most recent firmware update for the IQ Panel 2 is 2.8.1 which came out in '23. You need the panel to be on with Wi-Fi connected or the panel to be on and have an SD card to update firmware on the IQ Panel 2.

Hi Tyler, thank you for the information. I was successful getting the latest 2.8.1 software installed. For now the panel seems to be acting normal again. Does it make sense that firmware 2.7.2 would develop an issue like this?

For reference, my battery is not swollen and does not get hot but should probably be replaced soon. As part of my testing I disconnected the battery just in case it was causing issues. I had to reconnect the battery in order to do the firmware update, the system will not update the firmware with no battery present.

Thanks again,

Roger

I can confirm that 2.8.1 is reporting in ADC at this time.

I cant say that we’ve seen this specific issue with 2.7.2 in the past but we do recommend keeping up to date with firmware. The IQ Panel 2 was discontinued some time ago, so 2.8.1 may be the final update.

Qolsys does recommend replacement of the battery every 5 years or so.

Hi Tyler,

My IQ Panel 2 crashed again today and it took another complete power off and reboot to get it back alive again. I fear this panel is on it’s last legs so I ordered a New (open box) IQ Panel 4 coming in a few days (promised to be unlocked and not dealer registered). Can you please back up my config so I can upgrade to the new IQ PAnel 4 when it arrives in a few days?

Thank you,

Roger

A backup has been run at this time.

So long as the IQ Panel 4 is unregistered and works with 345MHz/PowerG sensors, a backup from the IQ Panel 2 can be passed to it. The backup will pass:

  • Sensor programming
  • User Codes
  • Panel settings

It will not pass Z-Wave device programming, secondary panel programming, or any 3rd party connections.

More information on the panel swap process can be found here:

When ready to have the swap performed, please submit a private message to us and include/ensure the following:

  1. The new panel’s 15-digit IMEI number
  2. No devices have been programmed into the new panel
  3. Both panel’s are completely powered down.

The swap can be initiated on our end during normal business hours.
