Backup battery life will depend heavily on usage. The 12VDC brick battery for the old system is often much older than the 2GIG Panel if you did not install the system.
It’s never a bad idea to replace the 2GIG battery every few years, depending on usage.

Do you have wired motion detectors or glass break detectors?
Those sensors are powered, unlike door and window contacts. The two AA batteries in the hardwired translator only provide backup for the translator, not the powered sensors. The 12VDC 5AH battery is backup for those powered detectors in the case of an RE108/208, etc.
