I am interested in setting up my house in order to use the alam.com system. Currently I have a ADT panel that has 16 zones. I would like to move to use the Alarm.com system but wanted to still use all the sensors that I currently have. What would I need in order to make this work? Suggestion greatly appreciated.
We are more than happy to assist you with this endeavor! We will need a little bit of information about system to get started.
First, what model number panel do you have? Also, are the sensors in your home hardwired, wireless or both?
There are many panel and sensor combinations that work with Alarm.com and knowing what exists in your home is a great first step to helping you out!
The sensors are all hardwired. They include door, window, smoke, motion, glass break, Fire.
I will have to check on the panel.
Since your sensors are hardwired you will need a hardwired to wireless module to communicate with your new panel.
If you decide to go with a 2GIG, you can get the 2GIG Go!Control GC2 or you can opt for the newer 2GIG GC3 panel. With either panel you will need to purchase a 2GIG Take-345 Takeover Module. While this module only handles 8 Zones, you can use multiple Take-345’s (2 in your case).
If you decide to go with Qolsys you can opt for the Qolsys IQ Control Panel. With this setup you will need the Qolsys IQ Hardware 16. This will handle up to 16 Zones.
Neither hardwired to wireless module will work with the existing hardwired smoke detectors. If the existing smoke detectors have local sounders (meaning the alarm siren is built in to each detector) you can use the FireFighter Wired Smoke Alarm Audio Detector with options that work for the 2GIG panels or for the Qolsys IQ Panel
This should get you started
Would I need a new panel also? I am assuming since it is a ADT panel and locked to them.
