ADC t3000 and vent setup on terminal Z2

That’s a good question! I actually did do this. I can enroll and de-enroll the thermostat into my iq2 panel without any issues, however, as expected I cannot control the thermostat. It shows up as a Z-Wave controller device node. According to trane when it’s not actually controlling devices it acts as a repeater or bridge. At the moment it’s included in my Z-Wave Network devices and it can see the nearest neighbors, which are alarm.com supported devices. Likewise my Nexia app says that the thermostat can see the other devices but unsupported. Basically because I can’t actually control the thermostat through the alarm.com ecosystem it may just be acting as a repeater or bridge to strengthen my current Z-Wave Network. Nexia is known to be quite proprietary with their devices, however they just recently opened up to SmartThings. Whether or not alarm.com will do the same, probably not but who knows!

@jwcsurety Jason let me know if you hear anything from ADC today about this? Thank you

Hey, I haven’t received an update yet on the testing for this, I have followed up with ADC checking on the progress!

@jwcsurety ok let me know when you hear anything.

@jwcsurety can you poke a bear and see where they are at with this.

Yep, I’ve actually got a call lined up with one of the HVAC folks there today. Will provide any updates here!

Alright, so we have been digging through tickets to see if there was any similar issues being reported and ADC support has found essentially the exact same issue reported on a RenewAire ERV. Have you potentially reached out to ADC about this directly?

So bottom line is that Vent options are certainly supported by the thermostat. However, ultimately the vent period of 24 hours is not recommended and not something the T3000 and ADC will be able to support. There is clearly an additional issue here, but the desired settings won’t likely work regardless.

The recommended timer of sub-3 Hours on the vent period and a longer override lockout is the official recommendation of the HVAC team for all cases, per HVAC specialists there.

I am happy to help with further troubleshooting though. However we would need to weed out potential interactions first.

Specific to the system: the ERV you are talking about has an onboard digital controller with a variety of built in optional overrides and timers. There are many unknown interactions which are possibly occurring.

Did you install this system yourself or did you have an HVAC company install?

Another thing that is unclear, in the photo there are two pairs of wires coming off the relay contact closure terminals. What is the additional pair coming off of N/O and COM on the relay going to?

One good test you can run to determine a little better what might be happening is to remove the contact closure wires from the relay.

The relay should only have the Z2 and C into the trigger. Connect a multimeter to the N/O and COM and test a 1 Hour vent period with 25% duty cycle. Measure resistance over the contact closure. Is it closed for 15 minutes?

If the contact closure output is closed for 15 minutes: you have a timer/wiring/peripheral sensor etc., causing an issue onboard or parallel to the ERV.

If it is not closed for 15 minutes: Test again, now testing the AC voltage across 24VAC and COM inputs of the relay. Same 1 Hour period and 25% duty cycle. Do you detect voltage for 15 minutes?

Do we have any updates on this from alarm.com and vent function

The underlying problem was identified by ADC in the way the timer variables were processed, and a firmware fix is on the way. Expect a couple months before deployment.

can they do over air on t3000 i remember t2000 never happen because of complications and panel differences.

Yes, OTA updates can be deployed, likely depending on the complexity. Different panels require adjustments although Z-wave plus devices will have an easier time accepting updates I believe.

@jwcsurety do we have any new information on this ?

I don’t have any update from ADC yet but we will reach out to see if there is an ETA

It is still being worked on currently and they do not have an ETA, but the assumption is soon.

Hi just curious if there is an update for this and if you could confirm if the T3000 is being discontinued or not?

Discontinued? Where do you heard that ?

I’ve heard nothing regarding discontinuing the thermostat.

I have however heard news on the Vent issue. They have a firmware version being tested right now to resolve this error. I’ve been sent a thermostat with the new version to test. Should have a solid idea on ETA soon. It should be possible to OTA as far as I know.

@jwcsurety how can I get on the testing. Have a system.at home that is still connected

I will reach out to ADC to confirm if this is an open beta or not but I believe this beta testing is for dealers only atm. I will follow up here with more information.
