I’m getting the ADC-CSVR2000P which comes with one 2TB drive preinstalled. I know it has a place for a second drive.
Can I add a larger drive - say a 8TB WD Purple drive - to this unit and also use the existing 2TB drive? Or do the drives have to be added in matching pairs (like two 2TB, or two 8TB) ??
Second question: If I start out with the 2TB drive, and later add the second drive (say 8TB), will the unit just expand to use the new space, or will the data on the existing 2TB drive be erased in that expansion process?
I’m trying to determine if I should buy the larger drives now, or if I can wait and do it later.
The docs I saw said up to 16tb drives can be used, but I’d bet that isn’t really the limit. Just the largest drive at the time of the writing of the doc.
Yes, the two drives do not need to be the same size in order to be used.
The data would not be overwritten, but we would need to send commands to discover the new drive.
That is correct. The drives in the CSVR can be up to 16TB each. Larger drives may work in the CSVR without issue, but it has not been tested or verified by Alarm.com
